Keyword Research

Spot rising, falling, and brand-new customer search terms straight from your own Amazon Ads data - so you can update your listing copy and bids before your competitors notice the shift.

Difficulty: 🟢 Beginner · Reading time: ~8 min

📋 Overview

Most keyword tools ask you for a seed word and invent a list of ideas. Keyword Research does something different and, for an existing seller, more useful: it looks at the search terms your products already showed up for in your Amazon Ads reports, compares the last period with the one before it, and tells you which terms are Rising, Falling, New, or your Top Performers.

That means you are optimizing against real customer demand for your products - not a generic volume estimate. When a term is climbing, you can work it into your title, bullets, and backend search terms (in Listing Quality) and raise its bid before competitors catch the trend. When a term is fading, you can stop spending on it.

Where the data comes from: your own Amazon Advertising search-term reports - the same data SellerMagnet already ingests for PPC. "Impressions" here means your ad impressions for that term, not Amazon's market-wide search volume. There is no AI involved - it is a straight, transparent analysis of your report data.

How it classifies terms

The page compares your selected window (default last 14 days) against the immediately preceding window of the same length, then sorts every term into a tab:

Tab
What lands here

Rising

Terms whose impressions grew more than ~10% vs. the previous period

Falling

Terms whose impressions dropped more than ~10%

New

Terms with zero impressions in the prior period and impressions now

Top Performers

Profitable terms (orders, ACoS within target, enough clicks), ranked by ROAS

All Keywords

Every term, with its change and status

Because it is period-over-period, changing the date range changes which terms qualify - a term can be "New" over 7 days but "Rising" over 30.

📊 The screen

  • Filters (top bar): Marketplace, date range (7 / 14 / 30 / 60 / 90 days), a Search keywords box, and an ASIN filter (All terms / Keywords only / ASINs only) with a Remove ASIN terms button - handy because product-target rows (ASIN-shaped terms) are not really keywords.

  • Six stat tiles: Total Keywords, Rising, Falling, New, Top Performers, and Avg CPC.

  • Summary bar: aggregate Impressions, Clicks, Cost, Sales, Orders, Avg ACoS, and Avg CTR for the filtered set.

  • Five tabs (Rising / All Keywords / Top Performers / Falling / New), each with a live count. Every table column is click-to-sort, 25 rows per page.

  • Per-term columns: Search Term, Impressions, Clicks, CTR, CPC, Cost, Sales, Orders, ACoS, CVR, plus Change % and a Trend mini-bar (or Status / ROAS depending on the tab).

  • Detail drawer: click any row for the full 12-metric breakdown (including previous-period impressions and the impression delta) and a before/after trend. From there you can Copy Keyword or Search on Amazon.

  • Export: the currently filtered terms to CSV or Excel.

Using it, step by step

1

Open and let it load

Open Keywords from the Listing-Manager menu (or the Keyword Research card on the Listing Optimizer page). It auto-loads your search-term data for the last 14 days - no seed keyword needed.

2

Narrow the view

Pick a Marketplace, adjust the date range, or type in Search keywords. Use Remove ASIN terms to drop product-target rows so you are looking at real search phrases.

3

Work the tabs

Start on Rising to catch momentum, check New for fresh demand, and use Falling to trim wasted spend. Top Performers shows your most profitable terms, ranked by ROAS.

4

Act on a term

Click a row to inspect it, then Copy Keyword. Paste rising and top terms into your title, bullets, and backend search terms in Listing Quality, and raise their bids in PPC. Export the list for planning.

⚠️ Good to know

Point
Detail

Needs Amazon Ads data

The terms come from your Advertising search-term reports. Without a connected Ads account (or with no data for the period) the page shows clearly-labelled sample data and disables export

Your impressions, not market volume

"Impressions" is how often your ads showed for a term, not total Amazon search volume

View-only

The only actions are Copy Keyword, Search on Amazon, and Export - nothing is pushed to Amazon or your listing automatically

Top 500 terms

Very large accounts are capped at the top 500 terms by impressions; a note shows the true total when that happens

Returns not modelled

Like all PPC figures, ACoS and ROAS here compare ad cost to ad sales and do not deduct the cost of returns

❓ FAQ

Is this the same as PPC Keyword Research?

No. This page analyzes your own search terms and shows which are rising, falling, or new. PPC Keyword Research is the opposite direction: you give it a seed keyword or ASIN and it suggests new keywords and bids from Amazon. Use both - this one to react to your real data, that one to expand.

Does it use AI or Amazon search volume?

Neither. It is a transparent, deterministic analysis of your Amazon Ads search-term reports. No AI, and no external keyword-volume provider.

I only see sample data.

That means SellerMagnet has no Amazon Ads search-term data for this marketplace and period yet - either the Ads account is not connected or reports have not been ingested. The sample rows are illustrative only, and export is disabled so they cannot leave the page.

What are the ASIN-shaped rows?

They are product-target terms (you were shown as an ad on a specific product page), not text search terms. Use the ASIN filter or Remove ASIN terms to focus on real keywords.
