📋 Overview

The Alerts System monitors your Amazon listings and seller account for critical events and notifies you the moment something requires attention. Whether a new seller appears on your listing (hijacking), you lose the Buy Box, or your BSR shifts significantly, SellerMagnet detects the change and alerts you through multiple channels.

For brand owners, the Alerts System is your first line of defense against unauthorized sellers. For resellers, it is an early warning system for competitive changes that affect your sales velocity.

🎯 Realistic Example

Scenario: You are a brand owner selling premium skincare products on Amazon.de. You want to detect unauthorized sellers immediately and protect your Buy Box.

Setup:

  1. Hijacking Alert: Template "Hijacking Guard": monitors all 35 ASINs, triggers on any new seller, sends email + dashboard notification.

  2. Buy Box Alert: Template "Buy Box Watchdog": monitors all 35 ASINs, triggers immediately on Buy Box loss, sends email notification.

  3. BSR Alert: Custom: monitors your top 10 ASINs, triggers when BSR worsens by 15%, dashboard notification only.

Day 12: You receive an email at 09:14 AM: "HIJACKING DETECTED. New seller 'CheapCosmetics_DE' appeared on ASIN B09PREMIUM1 at EUR 19.99 (your price: EUR 29.99)."

Your response:

  1. Open the SellerMagnet dashboard: the Priority Log shows the Critical event.

  2. Check the alert logs for details: the unauthorized seller appeared 3 minutes ago.

  3. Your MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) Enforcement repricer strategy holds your price at EUR 29.99.

  4. File a complaint through Amazon Brand Registry.

  5. The unauthorized seller is removed within 48 hours.

Without alerts, you might not have noticed the hijacker for days, during which they could have sold counterfeit products under your brand, generating negative reviews.

chevron-right⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoidhashtag
Mistake
Why It Hurts

Not setting up Hijacking Alerts for brand owners

Unauthorized sellers go undetected for days or weeks

Setting BSR thresholds too sensitive (5%)

You get flooded with noise from normal daily fluctuations

Ignoring triggered alerts

The alert system only works if you act on the notifications

Using only dashboard notifications

You miss critical events when not logged in

Not exporting logs for record-keeping

You lose evidence needed for Brand Registry complaints

## ✅ Best Practices

  1. Enable email notifications for Critical alerts: Dashboard-only notifications are fine for informational events, but hijacking and Buy Box loss demand immediate email alerts.

  2. Set BSR thresholds at 15-20%: This filters out normal daily noise while still catching meaningful trends.

  3. Review the Priority Log daily: Spend 2 minutes each morning scanning the log for events that need action.

  4. Export logs monthly: Keep a record of all hijacking events for Brand Registry complaints and potential legal action.

  5. Combine alerts with the Repricer: When a Buy Box alert fires, your repricer should already be adjusting. Use alerts to verify the repricer is responding appropriately.

  6. Start with templates, then customize: Templates give you immediate coverage. After observing patterns for a week, fine-tune thresholds to reduce noise.

❓ FAQ

chevron-rightHow quickly does the system detect changes?hashtag

The monitoring cycle checks your listings periodically based on your subscription plan. Higher-tier plans offer more frequent checks (as often as every 15 minutes).

chevron-rightCan I receive alerts via SMS or Slack?hashtag

Currently, alerts are delivered via email and the SellerMagnet dashboard. Additional channels may be added in future updates.

chevron-rightIs there a limit to how many alerts I can create?hashtag

Limits depend on your subscription plan. Check your plan details for the maximum number of active alerts.

chevron-rightWill I be alerted if Amazon itself starts selling my product?hashtag

Yes, if you have a Hijacking Alert configured. Amazon Retail appearing as a seller triggers the alert. The Buy Box Alert will also fire since Amazon Retail almost always wins the Buy Box.

chevron-rightCan I set alerts for products I do not sell?hashtag

Currently, alerts are designed for products in your own catalog. To monitor competitor ASINs, use the Product Sourcer for periodic manual checks.

chevron-rightHow far back do alert logs go?hashtag

Alert logs are retained for 90 days. Export logs regularly if you need longer-term records.
